questions for BGMNBN, Ch. 6 DLs: Alex & Ken
1. The majority of these
strategies are ways to reduce the speed in which money is lost.
Are these strategies a gimmick to make gamblers more confident
in not losing as much money?
2. The first few martingale like strategies seem reasonable, but
there is such a low reward and possible high risk, would this
possibility scare you from using these strategies?
3. The strategies for Slot Machines have zero mathematical
reasoning, but the fallacy of hot and cold machines still is
psychologically ingrained in our brain, why do you think this
is?
4. When gambling, is it better to bet all of your desired amount
at once and hope youre lucky or would it be better to spread it
across various hands?
5. When picking lottery numbers, it is advantageous to
pick uncommon numbers. What are some strategies you would use to
pick memorable but unusual numbers unlikely to be picked by
others?
6. One
common betting system is the martingale (doubling your bet
after each loss until you win). If you were to simulate a
martingale for, say, 100 rounds with a finite bankroll and
table maximum, what outcomes would you expect?
7. This chapter considers various games (roulette, craps, slot
machines) and examines why progression systems or patterns of
bet-alteration tend to fail in the long run. What
psychological factors might prompt players to believe their
strategy is working, at least
in the short term?
8. Why do betting strategies persist despite clear
mathematical arguments against them? Also, can
mathematics ever completely dispel the illusion that these
strategies work for the average gambler?
9. Gambling systems are about trying to win; mathematics tells
us to accept loss. What can this tension teach us about
human attitudes toward control, fate, and surrender in a
probabilistic world?
10. With AI prediction models and data analytics now
accessible, do modern smart betting tools meaningfully
differ from old betting systems, or are they just digital
versions of the same illusion?
