questions for TLC Ch. 3-4
DLs: Vanessa & Diego
1. Why do you think he keeps going back to human life as his
example of the relationship between objects and the agencies that
affect them?
2. Through pages 60-61, Venn describes a normal distribution
without ever mentioning it by name, why do you think this is?
3. Is John Venn a proponent of using experience to work through
probability?
4. On page 75/76, Venn Discusses the Principle of Sufficient Reason.
What are your thoughts on this concept? Do you think it is a good
one to describe probability, or is it outdated?
5. Do you think the statement made at the beginning of the chapter
that same conditions or circumstances dont equate to the same
output is accurate? (Pg 54)
6. In response to the previous question, do you
think the justification that conditions are difficult to measure
and that practically, as long as their similar, they dont
matter when looking at what the outcome will be? (Pg 57)
7. Chapter four asks the reader to think a lot
about what is meant by statements often used in probability
(equally likely, random, the word probability itself). The book
follows this with its definition of what you should define it
as. How did you define these words and do they differ from the
books?
