Discussion questions for TLC, Ch. 15-16
DLs: TBIAA

1. What do you think of Venn's statement that for some people " the world is all too full of change and irregularity and consequent uncertainty."?

2. What is your take on the idea of "moral expectation" versus the "mathematical expectation"? Can basing assumptions off of how someone feels be accurate?

3. Venn brings up the question " What is the distribution of wealth which tends to secure the maximum of happiness?" How would you answer this question?

4. The chapter quickly divides its audience into two groups, one group would like to diminish the effects of uncertainty, the other would like to increase the elements of uncertainty. Which group do you fall under and why?

5. The author states that one may be able to diminish said effects of uncertainty, on a case to case basis with the use of foresight. Is this agreeable?

6. What are some ways you diminish the effects of uncertainty in your life?

7. There was a claim made that uncertainty cant be removed, is this a reasonable claim?

8. The author said almost any consequence can be changed or be made to have less of a negative effect. What are some cases where you cant really change the severity of a negative consequence?
