This constitutes a total five office hours/week. You should feel free to drop by anytime I am around if you have a question - unless I am in the middle of something, I am happy to stop and help. However, during the specific hours listed above I can guarantee that I will be in my office and available.
ADVICE TO SUCCESSFUL OFFICE HOUR VISITS
- Office hours are a place to gain hints on how to think or progress forward through the process of solving a problem or understanding a concept from class. It is not a place where you should expect a solution to be laid out for you. Typically on your first visit regarding a problem, I will give a small hint designed to move you in the right direction. Subsequent visits to my office during which you demonstrate that you have given some thought to the prior hint will lead to more extensive hints.
- Office hours are an interactive experience where I ask you questions to figure out what you know, where you are stuck, and how best to help you. Don't be surprised if the first question I ask is to "see your work" or to have you lay out on the board "how far you have progressed".
