Welcome! My name is Darren E. Mason and I am a professor in the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science at Albion College. I also direct the Actuarial Science Program at Albion and teach for the Dual Degree Program in Engineering. I earned my BS degree in mathematics (1991) and my Ph.D. in engineering mechanics from the University of Minnesota. On my professional journey to Albion College I made pit-stops at Carnegie Mellon University's Center for Nonlinear Analysis for my post-doc (1996-98) and the Materials Science & Mechanics department at Michigan State University (1998-2001) as an assistant professor. As part of my relationship with MSU I have had the very good fortune to teach engineering and statistics in Volgograd, Russia as part of their study abroad program as well as teaching actuarial science classes at Guangzhou Higher Univeristy in Guangzhou, China!
For fun I love to travel, hike, and cook. And I love the Grateful Dead. A lot.
In spring 2023 I am teaching three classes: Math 143 - Calculus II, Math 247 - Differential Equations & Linear Algebra, and Math 326 - Operations Research. My detailed schecdule is in the below table. My presence on campus on Friday will vary throughout the semester.
