Title: | Conjecture and Proof |
Speaker: | Dennis Ross, ’08 Senior Mathematics Major Mathematics and Computer Science Albion College Albion,, MI |
Abstract: | Problem solving is a fundamental skill in mathematics. However, not all problems are created equally. In this interactive colloquium we will explore several seemingly innocuous problems and discover the underlying combinatorial or number theoretic structures. We will also explore the concept of Grundy Numbers (Nimbers) and their relation to bizarre combinatorial games. This is an accessible talk to mathematicians and computer scientists of all levels, and remember to bring a pencil. |
