Inverse problems arise frequently in many areas of scientific research, and have very wide application, such as in seismology, medical imaging, remote sensing, and image reconstruction. I will introduce the topic and describe the challenges involved in solving inverse problems. Several techniques for meeting these challenges will then be presented, and their advantages and disadvantages described.
