1. How would the world be different if the continents eventually crashed together or never separated at all?  Socially, politically, etc.

2. On page 216, Stevenson suggests that they should “make a slender crack right down to the earth’s midpoint.” What would be the benefits or possible negatives of doing this?  (Note: Stevenson's essay will be distributed in class.)

3. Do you agree that geology is the ultimate interdisciplinary field? If not, what is?

4. What do you think draws someone to study geology?

5. Can we come up with a better earth metaphor than the "plastic surgery" bit? 

6. Do you think we could ever harness a way to use the earth's core to solve the energy crisis?

7. Do you think the theory of continental drift grows sturdier with every new piece of evidence, as Angier states?
